Walkthrough:
After pressing the start button, you can change the color of the moving text by clicking. You can also mouse over the title and make it move. Basically, they both help in making some interesting and mesmerizing layers as the title travels across the screen.
Design Goals:
Easy to Digest - Player shouldn't be overloaded with complex things. There is no complex menu, it's just a simple mouse click and movement interaction/game.
Utilize Colors: Fit the theme of a rainbow and have multiple colors. By clicking the mouse, the player cycles through a wide range of colors, fulfilling this goal.
Make a Creepypasta - Make the player feel unnerved and unsettled. The music and the glitchy layers/trails all contribute to make an uncomfortable atmosphere.
Process:
I originally wanted to make some cool animations for the title. For example, something like RGB LED lights that flickered. I also wanted to do something like the old TVs where the logo bounces across the screen. I had other ideas, like a interactive pokeball or pokedex. However, I ran into some trouble and the code kind of glitched out. I was contemplating for a while whether I should scrap everything and start over, but then I remembered about the old Lavender town Pokemon creepypastas. The glitch kind of felt in tune with that kind of genre, so I built more upon it. I also wanted to make something that would subvert expectations. Having a normal loading screen suddenly turn into something glitched out and weird was one way to do that. The Lavender Town soundtrack played in reverse was also another way to tell the player that something is wrong. The cryptic messages in red slowing filling the entire screen was another way to add to the atmosphere of chaos and uneasiness. Static noise is thrown periodically to keep the player on their toes. Overall, there were things I wanted to do that was set back by different issues. However, I was able to use those setbacks to turn my game into something entirely new.
